Maggie Valley, NC - Home of "Ghost Town in the Sky", a recreated western village on top of its own mountain, with live gun fights and can-can girls, mountain crafts and food, Maggie Valley is one of the most visited towns in Western NC. "Wheels Through Time" is a nationally recognized antique American motorcycle and automobile museum near the eastern end of Maggie. There's also trout fishing in Jonathan Creek, which flows down through Maggie Valley, and lots more. You golfers will love the Maggie Valley Golf Course Club, open to the public, with 18 breathtaking holes.
During the winter season, starting often in mid-December, Cataloochee Ski Area slopes open for the general public and last year was the first ski slope in Western NC to open for business. If you get there and want to take a break from skiing, you can always ride horses at Queen's Farm Riding Stables, as long as it's not snowing, or go hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There is an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway at the head of Soco Gap, on the way to Cherokee. Don't miss Mile High Overlook on the parkway. It's stunning. And the only sounds you can hear is the wind blowing. The restaurants in Maggie Valley are good. Don't miss Snappy's or J. Arthurs. Snappy's is Italian, very casual, J. Arthurs Restaurant is more upscale. There's also Eaglenest Entertainment, with some great concerts, etc. during the year, and Carolina Nights Dinner Theater provides excellent entertainment six months of the year.
