In 2005, Dibe and Ashley Duckett opened their Produce Store on Hwy 209, three miles north of the Interstate. People who lived in the area quickly flocked to this new fresh food outlet for fresh fruit and vegetables.
Dibe and Ashley have recently refurbished a 1600 square foot building in Maggie Valley using rough hewn pine board walls and shelves—giving the establishment a feel of the good old days of sturdy wooden buildings smelling of fresh cut timber.
You will find fresh eggs, butter, cheese, and country ham in the refrigerated case.
Duckett’s Produce also sells homemade jams, jellies, salsa, honey molasses and a local favorite called "Chow Chow."
There are apples, pears, strawberries, fresh flowers and hanging baskets. In the fall there are acres and acres of pumpkins to pick from. This is also "mum" season when chrysanthemums are available.
Cool refreshing cold watermelon and sweet corn grown by Dibe will help make your spring, summer and fall both healthy and tasty.
Be sure to check out the locally made mountain folk art. There are bird houses and bird condos, roosters, beautifully hand painted rocks, wall hangings and post art.
Dibe and Ashley offer you the same friendly service and fresh fruits and vegetables as they still do at their original store on Hwy. 209 . . . just on a grander scale. If you have time to sit a spell, the Duckett’s Yorkie, Milo, will jump up and sit on your lap and let himself be petted. Maybe Jack and Clayton the Duckett’s young sons, will give you a wink and a smile.
Whether you are fortunate enough to live in these parts, or are here on a visit, come on by Duckett’s Fresh Produce. Enjoy the architecture, the pine smell, the Valley views and pick up some of the finest eating Mother Nature offers up in these parts!
