This beautiful, privately-owned and managed log cabin is near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest on 100 acres of forested “flatland” (rolling meadows and hills, too) atop a mountain ridge. It’s a perfect romantic honeymoon getaway or family vacation spot. And more than one writer/artist has fallen in love with it because it’s so peaceful and relaxing and conducive to creativity of all kinds! (sorry, no internet access)
Sitting in a rocker on the full-length porch facing the rushing, natural trout stream (catch & release) that runs the length of the property will be a favorite past time. The sound of the waterfalls below will soothe you to sleep at night.
You
can hike on the property, or nearby country roads,
through woods filled with wildlife and peaceful solitude. The Appalachian Trail is close
by: there are several white-water rafting companies
in the area and you can ride your horses, if you bring
them, into the GSMNP from Dogwood Flats. The newly-established
elk herd in the Park are not to be missed!
Our cabin is ideally situated between Asheville, NC (and The Biltmore Gardens, Estate and Winery), the Knoxville, TN area, Cherokee Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg (Dollywood) Tennessee, (around 1 - 1/2 hours drive time) but most guests don't want to leave the peace they experience from just sitting on the porch reading or dreaming. Buy your groceries in Waynesville or Newport, cause it's a 45 minute drive to the nearest grocery store from our cabin.
Although Dogwood Flats is only 9 miles from Interstate 40 (you actually cross into Tennessee and get off at exit 451, then drive back into NC near the Waterville Dam), it feels like you’re in another world. Beside the caretaker’s cottage, next door, no other houses are within shouting distance. But you won’t feel deprived. We have a full kitchen with microwave and stove, satellite television reception, hardwood floors throughout and lovely decor, with lots of sturdy antiques and furnishings from around the world. Our water source is a pure mountain spring and the water is delicious!
If you bring horses, they can be tethered across the creek. Don’t forget your fishing rod and NC or Tennessee fishing license!
