Jeremy Buckner has been carving for over 12 years. He started carving under the instruction of Roger Cochran, a Master Chain Saw Artist hailing from the North Carolina town of Alarka. Jeremy apprenticed for 2 years, from 1997 to 1999.
Jeremy has carved at the Mountain State Fair for 5 years, and also at the Trout Festival in Maggie Valley and the Maggie Valley Fourth of July Festival.
To the uninitiated, discovering the art of chainsaw carving is a weird and wonderful thrill. People will stare with their mouths open and say things like, "I didn't know you could do that", or "wow, that's really unique"... Agreed, it is a unique art form and the craft has been gaining in popularity in recent years.

Jeremy says he looks at a piece of wood and carves off the part that doesn't look like what he wants to carve. This statement should remind most readers of the true story of Renaissance artist, Michelangelo. When asked how he came to create the statue known as “David,” Michelangelo responded that he simply took away from the stone slab everything that was not David.

Jeremy Buckner has created hundreds, if not thousands, of wood sculpture art. The most in demand is the bear; however, Jeremy carves cats and eagles as well. Feel free to make a request. Jeremy is always willing to learn something new.
J eremy can be seen carving at the corner of Russ Avenue and Dellwood Road ( Routes 19 and 276 in Dellwood, North Carolina) where he is known as a local colorful folk/street artist. He also displays his talent at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds during the many festivals held there.
Jeremy has wood carvings all over the world. He will ship his North Carolina Carvings anywhere in the world for anyone willing to pay the shipping costs.
He carves custom orders and will even go to your property and carve standing trees. Sometimes Jeremy sends a client to a property where one of his sculptures already stands so the client can get an idea of what Jeremy can do.
Jeremy gets a lot of help from his side-kick and son, Justin. Even his
wife, Tosha, gets in on the action.
Jeremy's dad, Danny Buckner, pictured here at the 2008 Maggie Valley Trout Festival, designs and makes his own specialty furniture.
He most recently built what he calls "fishin" &
"pickin" benches.
Danny is a professional guitar player who combines talent and need into his furniture. On the rustic end of
his furniture, he builds welcome signs and just plain old sittin' benches. Mama helps design too.
Jeremy Buckner’s talent is multi-faceted. He is also a member of a local band, the Straight Ahead Band, which plays local venues and private parties in Haywood and Jackson Counties.
Straight Ahead Band is also featured on Mountainshops.com. (coming soon) |
