We were driving along Camp creek Road during the summer of 2008. We had just stopped by Adventure Trails Campground, and when we drove away from the campground we chanced upon a unique piece of property with folk art adorning the front lawn. We are now taking this opportunity to introduce you to Cathey and Don Taylor, primitive artists.
Don and Cat moved to the mountains several years ago (2002). Cat had been painting on fiberboard, canvas, furniture and found-objects for over sixty years. Cat’s artwork has been sold throughout the United States and Europe. Her primitive style is reflected in not only garden landscapes but in urban landscapes as well.
Felines are a particular favorite and can be found embracing the walls of her home and studio alike. Cat has done custom work for many clients. If you would like a custom made portrait of your own pet or have an idea for a painting, just contact her and she will be happy to spend personal time with you on the phone. Many in the Palm Beach area know Cathey by her work which was sold for many years at Somewhere in Time Gallery.
Bright flowers and desert scenes (one reminds us of the little church in Chimayo, New Mexico where the sacred dirt is) adorn everything from small tables to headboards in her home. The bride and groom bedposts featured on this page are a good example of the whimsical side of this unique art-form.
Don and Cat became partners four years ago. Influenced and inspired by his wife’s passion for her art Don decided to pick up the brush himself. In just two years this self- taught artist brings stunning colors and imaginative texture and style to his work. Both Cat and Don’s work is done using Acrylics. We were particularly drawn to Don’s paintings, which are done upside down and backwards on the underside of glass and look right side up from above.
