City Lights Bookstore is located in Sylva, North Carolina, a small Main Street town in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. Just up the hill off of Main Street, City Lights sits waiting to be discovered. Since 1986, City Lights has served the community of Western North Carolina by providing both residents and visitors alike with a charming and unique establishment. The bookstore is right upstairs from Spring Street Café.
City Lights Bookstore proudly claims, “Our goal is to share the literature of the Southern Appalachian region with the world, and the world of good books with our community.” Customers will find a regional room dedicated to the history, art and folklore of this beautiful and unique mountain area. In addition to books, there are maps, trail guides and historical information.
Families will delight in exploring a whole room filled with whimsical books for children of all ages. Look for the handmade magical broom (a Nimbus 2000!) which hangs from the ceiling. There is also a selection of young adult books both popular and classic.
A section of rare, out-of-print, and special books along with local poets’ work and North Carolina pottery are just a few of the things that help to create the cozy feeling this establishment offers. Adjacent to the Appalachian Regional book room is the used book section, where you will find categories like Humor, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, and Audio Books. The staff has posted some suggested readings complete with an appropriate cartoon from The New Yorker.
City Lights invites you to check their website for an up to date schedule of featured authors, book-signings, and other events.
